Food Allergy Apps for the Nokia Lumia

When you’re on the road with food allergies, you face a daunting task at least 3 times a day. When you also have work to accomplish, emotional exhaustion sets in on about Day 3.

I’m on an influencers trip right now for Women in Tech sponsored by Visit California, Microsoft and Nokia, and we have been trying out the latest Lumia phones. I’m using the 1520 (which has the most incredible digital camera I’ve used yet, incidentally), and I looked to see what types of apps they had for food allergies. I found 2 free ones I liked, and 1 I really wanted to try, but its not yet available for this phone. However, it might work in yours, so I’m including it below, because it’s a keeper. If you’re using any of these already, how do you like them? Pros & cons? Please share in the comments!

eat findr

This one really wowed me, as it has options for gluten-free, paleo and numerous others.

Safe to Eat

If you tend to purchase big brands (and we hope you’re doing that in moderation, ahem), this app gives you a listing of allergens and additives by brand.

food allergy translate (free version)

It’s disappointing that this isn’t yet available for the Lumia, but it seems worth waiting for (it’s available for smaller phones). It looks really well designed, and provides translations for your food allergies in various foreign languages. Major score for international travelers like me.
